What is a Celebrant Wedding?

A celebrant wedding is a ceremony created entirely around you. Unlike a registrar ceremony, there’s no set script, no restrictions on readings, and no limits on location. You can be as traditional or non-traditional as you like - you can marry outdoors, indoors, in a venue with a license for weddings, in a venue without a license for weddings, in your garden, or even elope on a mountain top.

I cap the number of couples I work with each year so I can spend time really getting to know them, and bring warmth, creativity, and storytelling into your day, crafting a ceremony that feels just like you. As an inclusive celebrant, I welcome couples of all backgrounds, identities, and traditions – every love story deserves to be celebrated fully and authentically.

Are Humanist Weddings Legal in England and Wales?

Not yet – but change is on the way. In October 2025 the UK Government confirmed plans to recognise humanist weddings in law, following the examples of Scotland (2005) and Northern Ireland (2018).

There is even potential for a fast-track route to recognition, meaning humanist marriages could become legally binding sooner than expected.

Right now, couples who want a humanist ceremony still need a separate legal signing at the register office, but the law is moving in the right direction.

ARE humanist weddings LEGAL in england and wales?

A celebrant-led wedding lets you marry however and wherever you want, without restrictions. In England and Wales you’ll still need to complete the legal paperwork separately while Wedding Law Reform continues.

Think of it like registering a birth: the celebration comes first, then the formality is done later. It might sound confusing, but it isn’t - and I’ll guide you through it step by step.

What's Involved

Say Hello

Start by getting in touch. If I’m free on your date, we’ll have a short video call to get to know each other and answer any questions. I’ll then send over a personalised proposal and contract. Once your booking form and deposit are in, your date is officially in my diary.

Planning

Next comes the fun part. I’ll send you joint and individual questionnaires to get to know you better, then we’ll meet to really dig into your plans. Together we’ll plan everything from how you want to enter the space to who you’d love to involve - whether that’s little ones, pets, or surprise elements.

Celebrate

I’ll write your ceremony script so it feels just right, supporting you with vows and readings along the way. A few days before the wedding we’ll run through the plan so you feel completely comfortable. Then it’s time to relax and enjoy the wedding of the century.
